Support a Girl Child
Sanitary Towels Program
LETS END PERIOD POVERTY!
In many rural Communities, Urban poor Counties, Arid and Semi-Arid areas, the high cost of sanitary towels and high unemployment rate create significant barriers for young girls to get sanitary towels. In Kenya period poverty is a serious issue that affects millions of school going girls/women, at James & Jane Education & Healthcare foundation we stand in support of sanitary towels for the girl child to boost their confidence and ease their learning.
This program addresses the barriers faced by girls, where cultural stigmas and economic challenges often prevent them from accessing essential menstrual products.
About 65% of women and girls cannot afford menstrual hygiene products. Which means that a significant portion of the young female population is unable to conduct their daily lives during their monthly menstrual cycles. The lack of access to menstrual hygiene products has led to important aspects of life such as education being interrupted for many vulnerable girls during this time.
OUR APPROACH
To address this issue, we at James Jane Foundation have launched a Sanitary Towels program in the partner school that aims to support students/girls with the products. To improve academic performance, and reduce absenteeism hence giving girls the courage to go on with their normal activities even on their menstrual dates.
This ensures that girls have everything they need to manage their periods with DIGNITY and COMFORT, increased confidence and participation in co-curriculum activities.
